Ducks in A Row

Excuse the saccharine image, but I have good reason to be chuffed and post image of baby ducks in rows. In my long hiatus from posting I have

  • sublet my apartment
  • quit my job
  • bought a plane ticket to Saint Maarten
  • all the while enduring horrible travel ordeals to spend Thanksgiving with my boyfriend’s family, only to rush home yesterday and spend it packing up all our personal possessions, in order to put them in storage before the subletters move in tommorow morning

It’s all worked out so well so quickly I’ve hardly thought anything through. That’s not exactly true, of course; I had been trying to move to the Caribbean for the winter ever since my boyfriend’s was approved to work remotely. But nothing was working out until last Tuesday morning, and now suddenly I have a whole new adventure ahead of me.

We’ll be there until March. I’m going to focus on my writing. I plan to finish my novel and start sending out query letters. I also am going to do some travel blogging, and hopefully scour up some other freelance opportunities. It’s a pretty amazing opportunity, even aside from the beaches and sun. That’s kind of like the icing on the cake.

I feel very, very lucky.

  1. mon dieu, quelle excitement! what awesome news, so glad you got all your “ducks in a row” and hope you have a blast! we went to st. maarten last year briefly on our honeymoon, but spent 2 weeks on st. barth’s which was absolutely incredible, i would HIGHLY suggest taking the ferry over beaucoup times!

  2. Ugh!!…moving to the Caribbean..for the winter. I’m consumed with jealousy and won’t get another thing done all day. Woe is me; but I can’t think of anyone else who is certain to share that warmth in her writing. Bon Voyage 🙂

  3. I am so excited. Actually right now I am so tired, but I expect the excitement will come rolling in Wednesday when I have finished moving my stuff and gotten a full nights sleep!

  4. I must be the only one that doesn’t understand the use of cute ducklings? Or are you just so overjoyed that you felt compelled to use a row of ducklings, sickly sweetness be damned?!

Congratulations on the awesome turn of events! I look forward to some photos…!

  5. Thanks and yes, many photos. I was implying I had all my ducks in a row. Things sorted. Is that not a British-ism?

You’ll find an even more mixed and stretched metaphor in today’s post I’m afraid. Diamonds in the rough, having thigns in spades, etc

  6. I got today’s vague reference!

    Don’t think we have ducks-in-a-row.

I even thought you might be referring to the bullet points of your list as ‘ducks’. I guess in some sense, you were…
