Dust up over Ai Weiwei’s Sunflower Seeds

And I thought it looked like a fun romp. Silly me. Apparently everyone (like Roberta Smith ) knew Ai Weiwei’s installation of clay sunflower seeds was a potential health hazard due to the dust created when people romped or otherwise interacted with the installation.

Personally, I would sign a waiver to take a run through an enormous hall of sunflower seeds like it was some McDonald’s ball pit on art steroids. But before you get like me, and sniff pish posh on deadly dust, check out these 8 Deadly Works of Art at Hyperallergic.

  1. HI Art,
I put this on my homage tot he Seed blog when it was still cool to run and dance on the seeds… so it was kind of shocking to read the big turn-around..but I did think crunch , crunch …wont they shatter with thousands coming for a jump each day…so the decision was made… sad as you say! I didnt think asthma…i is the 21st century…in every way this story is a curious thing… making the whole show even more talked about… !
    see you,
    Sophie

  2. Wow…and I was unaware of the seed blog, what a nice banner you have there.

Yes, it makes me believe the old saying, “there’s no such thing as bad press.” Everybody is talking about it…if only I could play in it a bit though. 😉
